Even though fall is almost over, I am still enjoying the fall food flavors as much as I can. Apples are a big time favorite in our house, so I am always looking for new ways to eat them. This apple turnover recipe is quick and easy. Instead of using dough or other traditional ingredients for the wrapping, I use rice wrappers that are used for spring rolls. They are extremely low in calories, fat, and contain a small amount of carbs. They also have minimal amounts of nutrition in them, so don’t expect much when you read the label!
The filling for these turnovers is quite basic but will taste like apple pie filling once it is cooked. I love how the wrapper will get a little crispy and crunchy on the outside and yet the apples that are on the inside will be soft and sweet. There is not a lot of added sugar in this recipe. I try to add the minimal amounts needed to help the apples caramelize in the oven. If you are looking for a quick and easy apple turnover recipe, try this one. They can be whipped up in just a few minutes and then are ready to eat just after coming out of the oven. If you are looking for more decadence, feel free to add a small scoop of non-dairy ice cream to the plate; but, it isn’t necessary to satisfy that pesky sweet tooth!
